Frequently ASKED Questions
The answer to this question is always yes and yes! The most important reason is that choosing a licenced contractor ensures you the home owner that works are only going to be carried out by specialist tradesmen who meet compliance requirements and operate with insurance and an understanding of the consumer guarantee laws. You can check to see if who your dealing with is licenced (builder, tradesmen, etc) by performing a search at the NSW Services website
It is true, the imported toughened glass is cheaper then Australian manufactured glass but it is important to understand why and to also understand why imported glass may cost you a lot more in the long run.
We are often asked by customers, “why is this glass cheaper then that glass?” The answer and reasons are almost 100% the same each time. Normally the comparison is between an important and locally made glass piece. To keep this simply and short lets put it into point form.
- Imported toughened cost less to manufacture then Australian glass
- Imported toughened glass is not required to meet the same QA checks during manufacture, mainly heatsoaking.
- Some imported toughened glass is tempered under different settings and conditions that are different from Australian made glass.
- Imported glass at times can contain Nickel Sulphide inclusions that can cause the glass to fail and explode at any moment, without warning leaving a mess to clean up and a bill to have it replaced.
